Bidding for Connection

In all relationships, we bid for connection to the other person, as defined by Dr. John Gottman in his book The Relationship Cure. So, what does it mean to bid for connection? Every single interaction in a relationship is considered a bid for connection. And how we respond to each bid, molds the relationship and defines how we feel about ourselves and the relationship. There are 3 ways to respond to bids for connection: turning towards, turning against, and turning away.
